Top 5 Reasons You Should Be Going To A Chiropractor While Pregnant

Going to a Chiropractor during pregnancy is not something people often think to do, but Chiropractic care can play a vital role in ensuring your pregnancy goes as smoothly as possible for both you and your baby. Chiropractic is a safe, gentle, and drug free way to keep you and your baby functioning and feeling your best. Chiropractors can provide you with natural and holistic expertise to help ensure you have a well-rounded team of health professionals by your side. Below, you will find the top 5 reasons why you should be going to a Chiropractor while pregnant:

  1. Optimal Function of Your Nervous System

Your body is incredible and functions without us having the think about anything. No pregnant momma needs to read an instruction manual on how to build certain parts of the baby on specific days; the body just knows how to do it. Your nervous system is responsible for coordinating every tiny step of your pregnancy and controls every organ, gland, and cell in your body. Chiropractors analyze your nervous system and help make sure it is functioning at 100% so your pregnancy can be 100% awesome!

  1. Maintain Proper Alignment and Movement of Your Spine

As I discussed in Reason #1, Chiropractors assess your nervous system and the way they do that is by assessing your spine. We know that 90% of nutrition and stimulation to your brain comes from PROPER movement of your spine. This is crucial while your brain is working so hard to create a baby inside you. Chiropractic adjustments are safe and effective during pregnancy and help restore proper alignment and movement of your spine.

  1. Help With Pregnancy Related Symptoms

There is no doubt that a lot is changing in your body while you are pregnant. Often times, this will cause seemingly unrelated symptoms to appear due to the body trying to adapt to these new changes. In reality, we can trace all these symptoms back to the nervous system being stressed as a result of all the work it is doing. Nausea, fatigue, headaches, sleeping difficulties, back or neck pain, swelling in hands or feet, and acid reflux are all common “pregnancy symptoms” we see ease or disappear with Chiropractic care.

  1. Less Stress on Mom = Less Stress on Baby

It is amazing how big an impact stress has on everything we do in life – and pregnancy is no exception. It can be a stressful time for both you and your baby. With Chiropractic care balancing out your brain and body, we can optimize your body’s ability to deal with these stressors. This is incredibly important because your baby is feeling every bit of stress you are while they are inside you, and if your body is overwhelmed, it starts to pull resources away from baby.

  1. Easier Labor, Delivery, and Recovery

We often have moms tell us labor, delivery, and recovery were easier when compared to pregnancies in which they did not utilize Chiropractic care. If a mother’s spine and hips are in proper alignment, and communication from the nerves to the muscles of the pelvic floor and uterus are free and uninterrupted, labor and birth can progress more easily. For moms who want a drug-free, natural birth, Chiropractic care can help them achieve that goal. Studies show that Chiropractic care during pregnancy can reduce the number of C-section births due to breech presentation. Webster Technique is a specific type of adjustment we use to help make sure your baby has enough room to move into the right position.

The key to all this though, is finding a Chiropractor who can provide all the support you need during this incredibly amazing time for you and your family. The above topics are things we see in our office every week, but not all Chiropractors practice the same way that we do. Both Dr. Vic, the other chiropractor in our office, and myself work with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to get our certifications in treating both the pediatric and pregnant populations. It is crucial you find a Chiropractor in your area that does the same so you can enjoy your pregnancy in ways you never knew possible!
